I had a 1980 Gallagher G-72 Special that I sold in 1981. I ran into it again last year and it had quite a bit of that "old" sound. I was very surprised. So, my guess is 25 years. ymmv, RC R. Curry'49...

absolutely agree with the above. i was scoping out an HD28 last year and two folks played it in the store. one used a light pick (one of those red dunlop ones, sounded really flappy) and the HD28...

I would say climate has a lot to do with it, but I think that the guitar has to be made well with quality woods first, and then after 68 years of playing, it will sound like a vintage guitar. I think...

I have a '65 0-18, that I bought in the late '80s. It already sounded good then- warm, open, resonant. For about 10 years, it was my primary guitar. I probably played it 5 hours a week, on average....
